The Center fosters an ideological, political, and research ecosystem that supports the proliferation of non-carceral, community-based alternatives instead of policing, courts and incarceration.
As communities experiment with alternative approaches, we provide the infrastructure and reliable data needed to strengthen ecosystems and demonstrate which community-based safety strategies truly work, for the public and for policymakers.
What we do

The Center will serve as a convener, hosting workshops, symposia and skill shares that invite new collaborations, scholarship and projects.
The Center will provide seed funding and technical assistance for new community-based alternatives to emerge through community research collaboratives.

The Center will develop communications strategies that shift the common belief that law enforcement provides community safety.
The Center will tell the story of current and historical community-based solutions to harm.

The Center will partner with community-based alternatives with researchers and law students to engage in participatory action research.
The Center will provide funding for current practitioners to step back from their work to reflect and produce knowledge based on their experience implementing alternatives.

The Center will serve as a training ground for the next generation of abolitionist policy advocates and movement lawyers.
